Check out this rad stop motion light painting music video for the song Helsinki Safari by Hahmo. Created by light painting artist Janne Parviainen, a.k.a JANNEPAINT and Ville Olaskari….. Made up of over 800 individual exposures it took two days to shooting and 5 days of editing to create this piece. The exposure lengths vary anywhere from 15 seconds to over a minute.
Peanut Butter and Jelly, Light Painting Stop Motion
Ben Parker has only been light painting for two months and this is his first attempt at a light painting animation. Pretty rad for a virgin….
Hey Ben tell me a little more about yourself and this piece..
How old are you?
26
How long have you been light painting?
About 2 months
Who is your favorite light painter, who’s work inspires you?
TwinCitiesBrightest is pretty awesome
Was this your first light painting creation?
No, About 2 months ago we were camping at the beach. My girlfriend was taking a
picture in the dark so the camera auto set to a longer exposure. My daughter then
ran through her shot holding a lantern. After that we drew all night! I’ll attach a
couple pics from that night.
Why did you create this stop motion light painting?
I wanted to do something unique.. After coming home from camping and googling light
painting I saw I had a long way to go to be one of the best. I’ve seen a few other
light stop video’s out there but only a handful are really any good.
How long did it take?
I had a lot of distractions, especially people wanting to eat in the kitchen. But I
think I did it over 4 nights. It took 448 shots that were all 30 second exposures
with a 10 second timer. And 448 is just what was usable. I probably took around 650.
So it was very time consuming, but well worth the effort in the end.
Why PB&J?
It seemed easy lol
Anything else in the works?
I’m working an intro to put at the front of future video’s and I have a short clip
(aiming for 20s) I’m working on now. Its about a bird getting revenge on some
hunters.. I have a whole list of things I really want to do, but I’m clearly not pro
at this yet so I’m putting some of my favorite ideas on the back burner till I learn
the trade a bit better.
Do you have a website?
Not Yet!
Anything else you want to add???
This was my first stop motion video (light painting or not) and I learned a LOT
along the way. You can tell in the beginning I shot during the day and I kind of
show up. I also dont have a tripod or remote shutter release which adds a lot of
camera shake. A tripod is first on my list of things to buy. Along with countless
other mistakes I made. But I’d recommend everyone try it out! I had a ton of fun.
Alright man thanks for your time and cant wait to see ham and cheese next…
