Light Painting Artist & Light Art-Photography Master JanLeonardo is the creator of Light Art Performance Photography also known as (LAPP) technique. Light Art Performance Photography differs from traditional Light Painting Photography in that the movements of the artist are choreographed. The LAPP technique uses long exposure photography to capture an artist’s performance within an illuminated scene. JanLeonardo is the namesake and founder of the LAPP technique and the project LAPP-PRO. The cartoonist, director and author Warren Ellis says this about LAPP-PRO: “I usually find light painting fairly dull. But LAPP-PRO have evolved the form into something that’s generating some pretty interesting images. Also, I’m greatly admiring the composition.” JanLeonardo has created some of the most technically complex and inspiring light art performance pieces around. In 2005 he began his work with light and illuminated landscapes using handheld light sources. The artist says this about his light painting art: “Light is no longer seen as flat lighting, but offers architects, designers and myself as an artist and photographer, to fantasize in spatial vision. Particularly focused, and controlled light provides plenty of scope to work to implement multi-dimensional and fanciful creations.” JanLeonardo is a Brand Ambassador for Led Lenser, Lenovo and Manfrotto, he is also supported by Carl Zeiss as well as Novoflex and Sony. His clients have included heavyweights like Nike, Diesel, Japan Tobacco, Tokyo Motor Show, Qatar Foundation or the band Coldplay. Jan Leonardo is the creator of the International Light Painting Award and organizer of the first Photokina – LightArt Congress September 2016 in Cologne Germany.
