The live light painting game just changed. I have known about the development of this for sometime now and had the hardest time keeping my mouth shut but now I can tell the world….. We have all seen the live light painting videos and we sit back and say damn I wish I was smarter, or if only I knew a computer genius who could make me something so I could do that. Well, well, well, enter Mr. Josh Beckwith, a computer genius at Posit Labs who has a passion for light painting photography. Josh with some help from light painting photographer Joerg Miedza (Half of the former LAPP-PRO) has created Light Paint Live, a very easy to use live light painting program that can give you some pretty awesome results.
Light Paint Live has a multitude of controls that allows you to fine tune your desired look and feel of the light. The possibilities for this software are really endless! You could create your own light painting performance act and head to broadway or simply use it as a realtime display for where you are when creating your own light painting masterpiece.
Images above are screen shots by Joerg Miedza.
There are 3 Different Versions of the software available; LPL Instant, LPL Heavy, and LPL Android. Josh also has an iOS version in the works as well as a few more tricks up his sleeve for the future. You can try the LPL Instant for free, the LPL Heavy Version with all the manual controls will cost you 5 Bucks, but it will be the best 5 dollars you have ever spent on any light painting tool.
Check out LightPaintLive.com and get it NOW.

cool program and good homepage but the lightart looks like made by a child!
You should realize, if you’re not creative enough for realising of Light Art Photography. Play with programs but please not with lights.

I’m afraid you miss the point of this program, Jan. We are not trying to replace DSLR light-painting. DSLR light-painting will probably always be clearer, smoother, and in higher resolution than what LPL can make. This doesn’t mean it’s a useless program.
LPL is meant to be used for various purposes:
1. As an entry-point into the world of light-painting. Not everyone has a DSLR camera, and not everyone has experienced light-painting before. It gives beginners a taste of what light-painting is like. Hopefully they will enjoy it, and be inspired to pursue it in a purer form.
2. As a live-view for light-painters (to be used in conjunction with a DSLR). LPL makes light-painting a reactive medium, so that the artist can be more pro-active when they are creating. Instant feedback speeds up the creative process!
I hope this helps you understand.

Light Paint Live is a Giant Leap forward over anything that was previously available for light painters looking for an ACCESSIBLE live light painting program. Josh has made a great contribution to live light painting and the growth of OUR art form. Thank you Josh.

cool. Did anyone figure out how to capture a Video from an Sony Handycam Camcorder? Lightpaintlive found the Camcorder, but the screen keeps black. Other Programs found a Video Signal.
Or does it just work with lame Webcam’s?!
