Check out this incredible Light Painting Photography Animation created by Jinchao Wu! This is a great example of when light painting and a little bit of post production come together to create something extraordinary. Inspired by the work of Lichtfaktor Jinchao shot over 10,000 individual light paintings to create this 2 minute stop motion! He used After Effects to sync up each of the 10,000 frames to the music and to animate a few sequences. This light painting film took nearly 2 months to create and all the light painting was created in camera. Check it out below and for more of Jinchao’s light painting work check out his Vimeo page HERE.

Introducing PABLO, The Light Painting Video App!

September 14, 2016 by Jason D. Page

pablo-light-painting-video-app

Ryan Warnberg and Michelle McSwain maybe better known as MRI Light Painting, the same folks that brought us the Light Bomber App have teamed up with Imperial Creation and released a cool new Light Painting Video App, YES VIDEO APP, called PABLO!. Pablo is a “Long-exposure photo and video app that creates visual works of art through light painting”. What I found most exciting about the App is that you can see your light paintings come to life with the live light painting video feature!

pablo-light-painting-gif

This technology is a much different process than just using a standard long exposure app for your phone. Obviously our phones don’t currently have a real shutter to leave open so how do you trick the phone into thinking it does? Well they created a custom algorithm that takes multiple one second exposures and merges them to produce a video and photo all in one. The team has been hard at work on this patent pending technology and it is pretty dang impressive, especially seeing the quality that is being produced on a phone. You see your light paintings come to life in real time and then you upload the visuals to your Pablo profile and then share your creations with the world. You can also share the videos and final image to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for now, with a feature for saving directly to your phone in the works.

The PABLO Light Painting App is just part of the story, building a strong Light Painting community within the App is also a really important part of this project Ryan said “Light Painting is best when it is collaborative. We worked to create not just a light painting video camera, but also a community around it, to act as a never-ending source of inspiration and encouragement for PABLO users.”

The App is fairly easy to use with slider settings for light sensitivity, exposure time, and shutter delay. They have a few videos showing the how to use the app here but I think Johnny A. from Stimulight the Night, who was asked to be a Beta tester, created a great tutorial video showing some of the features and images that can be created with it, so I will leave you with that. PABLO is free to download in the iTunes app store HERE, so make sure to check it out and YES there is a Android version coming soon. Enjoy.

Patrick Rochon: Light Painting to launch the new Infiniti Q30

September 1, 2016 by Jason D. Page

Q30_P.Rochon_7553

Light Painting Artist Patrick Rochon has teamed up once again with Infiniti, this time it was to to Launch their new luxury vehicle the Infiniti Q30! With just a single months notice Patrick created some exquisite light paintings of the Q30, a light painting video featuring a illuminated hero of his own creation and he even pulled off a live performance in front of thousands of people at the famous club O1ne in Beirut, Lebanon.

Patrick said “This project gave me the opportunity to demonstrate lighting a car using 100% light painting; generating images in camera that are sexy, layered and close to finished without spending days of retouching reflections on the car to make it look great.” Here are a few of the images Patrick created with the Q30.

With that much to do in such a short time I think most of us would have been in full panic mode but Patrick has been in these situations before. Being one of the most accomplished commercial Light Painters today Patrick was able to pull his team together and rise to the occasion! I especially loved the concept of revealing the car using Live Light Painting (check out the last video). Bravo Patrick well done!

Check out the videos below, and for the full story head over to Patrick’s website HERE.
