Light Painting Dragon Boat by Roy Wang

June 10, 2022 by Jason D. Page

Light Painting by Roy Wang Dragon Boat

Light Painting Artist Roy Wang has shared another one of his incredible Light Painting Projects. This project is a cultural public welfare project created by Roy and the “Photoelectric Dragon Boat Team”! Dragon Boat mixes traditional Chinese Culture with the modern day Light Painting Art Movement! Roy said “the boats were designed with Light Painting in mind”, Lights were incorporated into the boat hull reconstruction specifically for this project. The project took four days in total to shoot and Roy said that the most difficult part was coordinating with boat teams, dealing with the current and water flow and shooting some of the images from an 8 meter high metal platform.

We hope this project inspires you, check out the video and images below!

How To Light Paint Silhouettes on a White Background With Erin Simmons

June 8, 2022 by Jason D. Page

Light Painting Photography by Erin Simmons
In this Light Painting Tutorial Erin Simmons shows How To Light Paint Silhouettes on a White Back Ground.

Erin uses a White Bed Sheet as a backdrop and illuminates the sheet using from behind with his most powerful flashes to create a completely white background. When Erin or a model stands in front of the sheet they will create a silhouette that you can then fill in with Light Painting effects.

Settings to start at are ISO 100, F8 shooting on Bulb Mode.

The Light Painting Tools Erin uses are from: https://lightpaintingbrushes.com

Some tips to keep in mind is make sure the light from your flashes is strong enough to make the sheet completely white. If you have less powerful flashes or only one flash you can adjust the setting on your camera to allow more light to be recorded. If you find that your subject is not dark enough to create a silhouette because of the light spilling off the sheet have them move further away from the sheet and closer to the camera.

Erin also talked about his silhouette technique in our Light Painting Brushes Live Event, you can catch the replay here: https://youtu.be/0Nd4ATJCvKs
