Chris Benbow Light Painting Dome Video Tutorial

September 19, 2011 by Jason D. Page

Well the cat is out of the bag on how to make the infamous dome. Here is a really nice video tutorial from light painting artist Chris Benbow on making the DOME…..

Just a side note: Chris waited until creator of the Dome Andrew Whyte gave him his approval to go ahead and release this tutorial. This is the kind of respect all light painting photographers should have for one another in our emerging and ever expanding art form. Well played Mr. Benbow.

Noctography – Tutorial 6: Domes

A basic tutorial on how to make Domes created and presented by Chris Benbow.

Camera: Canon EOS 5Dmkii
Lens: Canon 17-40mm
Shutter Release: Hähnel Wired Release
Dome Tool – Christmas Lights from Ebay – 1 Bike Wheel, 30 Battery LED’s

Camera Settings
ISO: 100
Aperture: F/5.6
Shutter Speed: Bulb – 30 Seconds

More night photography tutorials coming soon.

Awesome tutorial ! Thanks a lot for sharing. Gotta try that as soon as I get the time for. Maybe gotta steel (or borrow) the neighbors frontwheel …

    Cheers, Daniel.

Great stuff Chris. Been having a go at this for a while, not quite perfected it without distortion yet though.

Take a peek at my flickr Photostream under Mach_One.

    Many thanks for sharing.
