How To Light Paint a Spiked Orb

In this Light Painting Photography Tutorial, Jason D. Page demonstrates how to Light Paint a Spiked Orb using Plexiglass Light Modifiers from the Light Painting Brushes system. This striking light form is fun to create and highly customizable with different tools and light sources.

Camera Settings

  • ISO: 100
  • Aperture: F5.6
  • Shutter Speed: Bulb Mode

Light Painting Tutorial Tips

  1. You don’t need to rotate a full 360º to create the illusion of a full orb.
  2. Keep your arms the same distance from your body while spinning the light.
  3. Use a flashlight with a strobe setting or manually toggle it on/off for spiked effects.
  4. Anchor one foot and keep your shoulder over that spot to ensure symmetry.
  5. Light the ground slightly to remove your feet from the final image.

Most importantly, have fun Light Painting and experiment with your own styles and movements!
