Lichtfaktor – Light Writing Graffiti Artists from Germany

Light Painting Graffiti by Lichtfaktor

Lichtfaktor is a pioneering Light Writing graffiti collective based in Cologne, Germany. The group consists of multi-talented artists $ehvermögen (Marcel Panne), JIAR (David Lüpschen), and 10X (Tim Fehske). Formed when Marcel was commissioned to create a visual projection project for Deutscher Ärzte Verlag themed “Energy in Motion,” he invited David and Tim to collaborate—and Lichtfaktor was born.

The collective’s work is deeply influenced by their roots in street art and graffiti culture. Known for their bold and colorful Light Graffiti style, Lichtfaktor combines performance, photography, and stop-motion animation to create stunning visuals. Their commercial projects include Light Painting animations for clients like the telecommunications company TalkTalk.

Lichtfaktor draws creative energy from graffiti, urban landscapes, and the work of other light painting artists. While they often plan their pieces in advance, spontaneous inspiration from the environment plays an important role in their process. The team embraces contrast—often mixing different light sources to give their characters and calligraphy extra dimension.

When asked if Light Writing is an evolution of graffiti, they said: “For us it is an evolution and a chance to animate graffiti characters in urban landscapes. But in general we would say that graffiti is graffiti and light graffiti is light graffiti.”
