Bryce Canyon Night Photography – Light Painting Vlog 45

Bryce Canyon Night Photography – Light Painting Vlog 45

Light Painting by Jason D. Page

In this episode of the Light Painting Photography Vlog I explore more of Bryce Canyon specifically the Wall Street Trail at Sunrise Point. This was my favorite area of the park that I got to see, especially during the day.the views in this location were absolutely epic! When the sun went down if was a magical night of Light Painting with a full moon rising. There is a spiritual quality to the canyon, especially at night when there is no-one else around. I felt like I was there with the spirits of the people that called this place home many years ago. The silence and the stillness of the night air down in the canyon is an experience I will forever be grateful that I was able to experience. There are so many different places in the canyon to do some creative night photography. You could stay there for weeks creating new images every night! If you have the opportunity to go to Bryce I highly recommend going on this trail, it is special.

Stranger Danger – Light Painting Vlog 44

October 19, 2022 by Jason D. Page

Stranger Danger

In this episode of the Light Painting Photography I get more freaked out that I have been in a very long time out in the woods at night when I see a stranger watching me from the shadows.

Here is what happened. As I was creating my Light Paintings I got the feeling that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. I felt like someone or something was watching me in the dark. I stopped Light Painting and began to scan the area when I spotted a dark figure sitting on a rock watching me about 20 feet from where I had placed my Photography Gear. I was only able to see a silhouette of a figure because even though there was some moonlight in the sky, down in the canyon it was very dark. This dark figure sat there watching me Light Painting for about 30-40 minutes before I decided to walk over to see what was going on. I was in the middle of nowhere, as I often am, and there was only one way out of this location. I walked over and said hello, the man said hello back but it was not your normal conversation and it made me even more uncomfortable. I explained what I was doing and was hoping he would leave after that so I could get back to Light Painting. The man didn’t leave. He just kept sitting there watching me.

I have run into people in the woods at night before and the interactions were much different. I am someone that always looks for the positive and believes that most people are good but this interaction gave me a bad feeling and it all just felt odd. I stayed on the opposite side of the stream and tried to Light Paint a few more images but I could not get the thought of this guy sneaking up on me and cracking me over the head, or him stealing my gear that he wasn’t sitting far from, out of my mind. I decided I needed to pack up all my gear and leave. The problem was there was only one way out of this location and that was to walk directly by this random man who was sitting there in the dark.

I packed up all my gear and headed toward him. I decided when I walked up to him I would shine a bright light in his face to disorient him, JUST IN CASE… I shinned the light and when I did he tried to scoot back on the rock and fell over onto the trail. I am pretty sure he was just drunk, high or both. I asked him if he was alright, he said yes he was fine. I wished him a good night and hiked back to my car, looking over my shoulder the whole time to make sure he wasn’t following behind me.

The bottom line is that more than likely from this man’s view he was out there in the woods to drink, relax and “collect negative ions” as he said to me. He is probably a good dude that, like me, loves to be out in nature. HOWEVER from my perspective I was feeling like he had bad intentions because of the odd interaction and the fact that his behavior didn’t match what I would have expected. Also that he watched me in the dark for well over an hour. The bottom line is that I made it out of there safe and sound. I don’t know if this guy was a serial killer looking for his next victim of if he was tripping out of his mind, if he was tripping he probably thinks that he met an alien.

Light Painting in Bryce Canyon – Light Painting VLOG 43

October 18, 2022 by Jason D. Page

Light Painting by Jason D. Page

In this episode of the Light Painting Photography Vlog I leave Red Canyon and enter Bryce Canyon to camp and explore the park! I explore many of the trails in Bryce Canyon and settle on Rainbow Trail for my main location for the night. At the Rainbow Point Trail I find a chopped down tree on the edge of the canyon with Epic Views! I fall in love with this location and spend most of my night creating my Light Painting Photography there. I also went to create at a few other location in the park on the same night staying up creating until the early morning hours. There are so many incredible locations for Photography inside of Bryce Canyon, I could have been there exploring and creating for at least a month.

Light Painting in Zion and Red Canyon – VLOG Episode 42

October 6, 2022 by Jason D. Page

Light Painting by Jason D. Page

In this episode of the Light Painting Photography VLOG I create some daytime Light Paintings while driving through the tunnels in Zion National Park. Unfortunately Zion was very crowded and did not have any camp sites available so I moved on from the park on my way to Bryce Canyon. On my way to Bryce Canyon I found Red Canyon Campground. Red Canyon Campground is an excellent place to camp and there are wonderful trails just behind the Red Canyon Visitor Center. I spend nearly the entire night shooting on the trails behind the Red Canyon Visitor center where I created new Illuminated Beings Light Paintings that will be use in future challenges on LightPainting.ThetaDrop.Com I also created many other Light Paintings including a “Burning Bush” Some Light Painted Rock, Shattered Worlds, Orbs, Light Painted Ghost and many more. I didn’t plan to shoot as long as I did but the location offered so many inspirational view and it was a beautiful night!

Light Painting by Ruben Martinez

Light Painting Artist Ruben Martinez creates exquisite and unique Light Painting Photography. Known for his incredible Light Painting Portraits created using Fiber Optics from Light Painting Brushes, Ruben captures the soul of his subjects. While I was in Las Vegas I went to meet Ruben at his gallery. Ruben shared the story of his Light Painting journey with me. He also told me about the way that Light Painting has transformed not only his life but the lives of the people he has created with. I was moved by his story so I asked Ruben if he would let me record him so I could share his story with our community. We both hope you find some inspiration in images and words in this video! Spinning Time In Las Vegas, Light Painting VLOG 41

August 2, 2022 by Jason D. Page

Light Painting in Las Vegas

Spinning Time in Las Vegas. In this episode of the Light Painting VLOG I am in Las Vegas and create camera rotations of the bright neon lights all around the town. My main focus on this VLOG is Resorts World Las Vegas because, like me, they are also a Partner with Theta Network. Camera Rotation is a form of Kinetic Light Painting in that the lights in the scene stay stationary with the camera is what moves to create the color and design within the single long exposure photograph. I use a custom built camera rotation tool in this video but you can find an off the shelf solution in this full Camera Rotation Tutorial that I made here: https://youtu.be/G0ZFD9hj5fs

This VLOG is dedicated to my mom who passed on shortly after our time in Vegas together. She always encouraged me to follow my dreams and she was always there to support me along the way. She taught me to work hard to create the life you want. She taught me there was always a way and to never give up. She taught me to always get back up when life knocks you down. She taught me to always be kind because you never know what someone else might be going through. She gave me my love of nature, the ocean, adventure and travel. Most importantly, for her, she taught me how to be a gentleman. She was diagnosed with cancer 4 times and beat it 3 times like the Warrior she was.

Light Painting VLOG 39 – Grand Canyon

July 13, 2022 by Jason D. Page

Light Painting by Jason D. Page

In this Light Painting VLOG Episode I leave Bluewater State Park in New Mexico and head to the Grand Canyon. First, I take a brief detour to check out Roden Crater, the life work of James Turrell. I very quickly get kicked out of there and move on to the Grand Canyon where I struggle in the wind to get the images I am after. After battling through I created the image “Good Things Take Time”. The irony is my favorite image of the night “Took Time” to create. Not only did I have to move locations numerous times, I also had to write the text many different times to get it to look the way I wanted! James Turrell, Grand Canyon and Irony…
